About Us
The Printworks is the new name for Kingdon House.
Our new name marks a new chapter in our development as a community building in the centre of Tavistock. With our new name we hope to become easier to find and with better facilities once you find us. Just look for our newly refurbished Grade 2 Listed building on the corner of Pym Street and North Street.
The exterior of our building has had a major refurbishment, thanks to grants from Greater Dartmoor Leaf, Tavistock Town Heritage Initiative, Tavistock Town Council, The Co-op and plenty of generous local fundraising. We have since progressed, with improvements to the interior and reorganisation of spaces available inside the building.
For the community – space for everyone
We are a charity with a successful track record spanning over 40 years. Our prime aim is to provide a space for the community to meet. We provide a relaxed, friendly environment; a space to meet people, be active, be at ease, be creative and be supported. A good place for discussion, well-being, entertainment, activity and fun. We have become an independent meeting place with a wide reach.
We also have the responsibility to look after our remarkable Grade 2 listed Arts and Crafts style building. After successful fundraising appeals and positive local support, we have just completed the external refurbishment of the building. So now we have started the internal improvements on a room by room basis. The Printworks is regaining its former glory, with the added benefit of being more welcoming and comfortable too.
So, what goes on at The Printworks?
We hire rooms for community use at very reasonable rates; from one-off meetings, to regular and long-term bookings. The Printworks is the place to go for courses, groups, activities and events. Currently, we have a flourishing range of activities in arts, crafts, printing, yoga, musical theatre, dance, singing, meditation, discussion, support, well-being and rubber bridge with new groups starting up all the time. Check out our noticeboard on Pym Street.
Latest arrival at The Printworks is Studio 1, which can be found on the lower ground floor (access from North street). This is a creative studio for a silver jewellery maker and a 3D artist. Studio 1 will be open on specific days to the public for viewing and to purchase their work.
