Purpose of the Role

The Volunteer Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the financial management of the organisation, ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and compliance with relevant charity or community‑group requirements. The role provides clear financial insight to trustees, staff, and volunteers, supporting good decision‑making and long‑term sustainability.

📌 Key Responsibilities

  • Financial oversight — Maintain an accurate overview of income, expenditure, reserves, and cash flow.
  • Budgeting — Lead the creation of annual budgets and support project‑level budgeting.
  • Record‑keeping — Ensure all financial records are complete, up‑to‑date, and stored securely.
  • Reporting — Prepare clear monthly or quarterly financial reports for trustees or management.
  • Banking & payments — Oversee bank accounts, approve payments, and ensure dual‑authorisation processes are followed.
  • Compliance — Ensure adherence to charity law and financial regulations
  • Audit & independent examination — Coordinate annual accounts, liaise with independent examiners or auditors.
  • Fundraising support — Provide financial information for grant applications, bids, and fundraising activities.
